After returning my 3 contract Mobile Broadband due to non 2G compatability, i've now bought one of the black (to match my MSI Wind!) 3 Huawei E160s for £49.99 to use with my normal 3 PAYG SIM, which magically has 2G coverage now too!

Yay!

Bargainous! Guess it will come with another SIM too!

It's interesting to see that the E169 is 50 squid more expensive - glad I went for it - but no idea what the difference is!

Seems to be a long list of incompatible software, surprising some of the items:
http://ask3.three.co.uk/SRVS/Data/Hutch/Kn...le_software.htm

From searching via google, the whirlpool forums in Australia imply the 169 has more antennas and frequency bands than the 160, and potentially an external antenna connector. Only of interest if you're going outside the EU I guess, since 3G/HSD/UPA speeds are only on 2100mhz here.

Edit - all seem to do 384kbps upload only, so no sign of HSUPA ?

Purely luck via Google for "Huawei E160". I found a 3 page for troubleshooting (sorry, didn't keep URL) and for all their USB modems it linked to that incompatible-software list.

I have a feeling this list is a cop out, for example how can a DVD Player affect a USB modem? Sounds as if the Huawei driver is crap...?

Shame the drivers on the sticks are in ROM, not a flash drive..!

No. How much do they charge?

I just use the iSmartSim in mne. Works a treat - and cheap too. Thinking of ordering a couple more as spares.

6 euros...

iSmartSim looks cool, not sure about having my SIMs about tho? That said, pretty tempting at the price...

Paul, I'm totally cack handed and I managed OK with some nail scissors - it's really not worth buying a cutter.
