http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/acce...nts-policy.html

Ebay have recently changed their aceepted payment policy to push paypal harder -'online payments are the best / easiest / safest ra ra ra' - which is untrue, but anyway, whiilst reading, I noticed Nochex was also now on the 'banned' list. Nochex, a UK based company setup by the NatWest IIRC! Who'd you rather handled your money? Paypal, a shyster company run as a monopoly with no real regulation and a parent company who pushes it's use as fait acompli, or Nochex, setup by a bank, regulated by the FSA and generally well regarded.

I think I'll complain to trading standards and anyone who'll listen. mad.gif

Richard

p.s I don't actually use nochex, I just object to ebay/paypal squeezing them out to force the use of paypal.

This is why I tried to use other auction sites (yahoo auction notably). Sadly so few of us did they're mostly dead now.

Best way to fight that is to use checks, money orders and the like to bypass PayPal altogether. Unfortunately, those who can't be trusted ruin it for the rest.

Sadly I think the writing is on the wall for ebay insisting *all* payments go through paypal eventually.
They push paypal so hard as it is, most people will go for the path of least resistance and use it. sad.gif

Yeah I second that! I love the google philosophy, and if their payment products are as fairly priced when they're released here in the UK as they are the US at the moment, paypal is going to have some serious competition at last.

Just need google to create an auction service now.

How about g-bay??

g-bay would be cool, not so sure it will happen soon tho. didn't they buy craigs list to enter into the buying and selling of items? just items at a fixed price not auction.

also I think google checkout is primarily meant to aid adwords customers, not as a universal payment method 'for all'

I thought ebay were an investor in craigslist, not google?...

AFAIK Google checkout is simply an online payment gateway similar to the likes of paypal, worldpay etc etc. Only it uses the same policies as paypal allowing users to register their details inc. payment details/bank details enabling them to pay for things more easily without having to enter their card details every time.

It is a universal payment method, but the intention is to also promote adwords customers that use this payment method by adding a little cart symbol to their adwords advert, hopefully encouraging customers to use them because of the ease of purchasing.

Glad somebody at ebay listens.....:

EDIT : In the interestes of fairness I should point out that my eBay registration is held at ebay.com and not eBay.co.uk ( as eBay.co.uk didn't exist at the time I joined) so the c.s rep may have assumed I was writing from the US.

Dear fluffcat1,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to PayPal as an unfavored payment
method.

I want to assure you that sellers retain the right and remain able to
accept checks from their buyers as a means of paying for auction
winnings. There is no 'no checks' policy in force at ebay.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Thank you for choosing eBay.

Sincerely,

Aidan
