Thanks for the reply paholman. I don't have EDGE but my 3G and GPRS is working fine (on T-Mobile UK). When I am on WiFi it finds my location without a problem so I guess it is something to do with the A-GPS server being only accessible by O2, but still not sure why it won't find my location using the 'proper GPS'. I believe the A-GPS uses the mast triangulation to get the rough location before the proper GPS kicks in to give the actual location. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to set the A-GPS server though.

A failed jailbreak happened to me twice, and after my phone wouldn't boot at all. After an outburst of 4 letter words, I managed to do a restore using iTunes, and it worked again. On saying this, some unofficial programs/applications can modify the bootloader or baseband which can actually "brick" your phone if it goes wrong, and will leave your device completely usuable. These programs have been used previously to "software unlock" the 1st gen iphones. As Confucious says, there is no software unlock available for the iPhone 3G yet. I'm not saying hacking your phone is not without it's problems, it's the same as the Windows Mobile cooked ROMs etc, you jailbreak your phone at your own risk and you void your warranty if you do so . Personally, since AppStore, I've not jailbroken my 3G iPhone on the latest firmware, although I did on 2.0 and also my 1st gen one. I removed the unoffical Applications, did a restore to the latest firmware upgrade, and it's been working fine as an official Apps locked phone. I'm on an official iPhone tariff so cannot say for sure if this will work for those phone activated during the jailbreak process. The temptation for me to jailbreak again is there because of the MMS (Swirly MMS) and Video Recorder Apps (Cycorder) but so far I've resisted. I've survived this far without them. Firmware updates have been pretty frequent in the last few months, and their purpose was to fix serious performance issues and bugs. Those updates are something I'd personally want on my phone straightaway, not something I'd be prepared to rely on someone hacking before I apply them. Just my opinion though  I don't intend to send Modaco/Mobihlic users elsewhere but the Forum at http://www.modmyi.com is where the serious iphone developers and jailbreakers go, so you could get some re-assurance from those guys. Well havent jailbroken my phone, plan on waiting for the next update.
All im really missing is cut and paste (come on apple, soon I hope) and some kind of turn by turn sat nav program. (tom tom anyone? hehe, that would make the device spot on!) So far tho, the whole apple iPhone experience has been a good one. The web browser for me personally is excellent, sooo smooth and just works. Even tho i have a turbo sim in my phone my phone still works pretty well. Ive had it occasionally say No Network but this is in patch areas of signal and also one time i just put my phone off then on again and it way fine. Tried the apple iPlayer and it diverts to the iplayer beta site, which i can say works great on the iphone. Watching very good quality and smooth streaming media direct from the iplayer on my phone. Excellent stuff!  I dont fancy going with O2 as im pretty happy with tmobile so will see how that goes. Excellent phone tho, very happy. -------------------- Tom

I can only echo what you said, I don't miss cut & paste that much but do miss satnav - it has the receiver, we just need the software!
There are loads of free apps for it and I've even paid for some, the iTunes store makes it really asy and they all just work. I haven't enjoyed a phone so much since I got my first WM device!

The app store is great, i currently have installed alot of game demos to try them out, which are pretty good, and alot of the games and apps just do the job, passing a bit of time or things like the facebook app or shazam just help out when needed. and def agree with the last comment you made. I actually enjoy using my phone, using the browser, listening to music, texting and using the phone. No slowdown and when making and answering calls it all just works! Very happy chappy! I can see the App Store just going from strength to strength. I have to say tho there aren't many useful forums, apple sites that i can find for discussion about the best apps on the app store, altho there are alot of the jailbreak sites out there with info discussions on there about cracked apps or apps that only work when your phones jailbroken.

Yes, I'm with you two. Definitely the best phone I've had so far, and there's been a few.
Very happy with the games, Asphalt 4, Virtual Pool Mobile, Super Monkey Ball to name but a few. Brilliant!! I definitely agree with the iPlayer (BBC) works brilliantly, as does playing of mp4 movies. I miss Sat Nav and Copy and Paste too, it'll come soon, they have to. I just hope Apple don't try ban other Sat Nav software and try and add something to Google Maps, which would be a real shame. Having to download all the maps as you go is a real pain. Firmware 2.2 is rumoured to include the ability for turn-by-turn navigation, so I really hope the likes of TomTom and Garmin release something soon after. It was supposed to be in 2.1, but bug fixes took priority. When it's due out is anyone's guess, anyone know? I do find myself checking Google News for any firmware update news or iPhone Sat Nav gossip Built-in GPS was what I wanted on the iPhone, and now I got it, I really want to make the most of it

Likewise. I went with the Rebel SIM (sold as SIMable) and it works well with my T-Mobile SIM in my 3G iPhone, apart from GPS. If I put my O2 SIM back in, GPS quickly aquires a signal (even indoors) and is accurate. With the Rebel SIM it just refuses to work. I also suspect that the battery drain is significantly higher with the Rebel SIM (although that could just be due to the T-Mobile signal). If O2 had better UK coverage - and not just 3G - the phone / network combo would take some beating. |

I keep checking for news on the iPhone to. Tried using the Google Maps app when i was a few miles away from home and in the countryside the GPS tracking was very patchy and not at all on par with my Diamond with TomTom.
Roll on the next update then with (fingers crossed) turn by turn say nav. Everything else on the phone is great (apart from the pain in the arse iTunes sync. hehe, so used to just plugging it in, copying whatever i want across to my phone and then done) Overall pretty happy with the iPhone, everythings sooo smooth very enjoyable.
