Have been searching around on Orange website and came across this on Orange France website:

QUOTE
Paris, May 16, 2008
Orange today announced a new agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Orange customers in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and Orange’s African markets later this year.

Seems it's being released to limited market in Europe. And it's not very clear if it's just iPhone or the new iPhone 3G, however I would imagine it's iPhone 3G.

Edit

Interesting...

I walked by the Kingston Orange store this morning, and they had a big poster up in the window saying "iPhone - free on £35 contracts". I'm sure it wasn't there yesterday...

It isn't listed on the website... I feel this must be a wind up... Maybe they are using the poster to get people in then show them the Diamond?

actually, I wonder if I misread it and it was actually an iTouch and O are giving them away with contracts. I will swing by again at lunchtime and see.

I love the way it states that o2 have failed to meet the high sales targets... They haven't had the stock! lol

It would work much better on Orange, but I really wouldn't hold your breath, o2 have a sealed deal with apple for the uk...

France Telecom have announced that it will be on Orange in some markets but the UK isn't one of them.

Mark, T3 seem to be suggesting the deal isn't that watertight - do you know better?

One of the reasons I'm interested is that our company contract for Blackberrys is with O2 but we are thinking of moving to Orange. O2 have said they will be able to supply iPhones cheaper than the Blackberrys but if O could do that as well.....

I don't know for sure, Just what I read at mobile news said that o2 have a water-tight contract with apple that is ongoing so no other operator could supply the iphone in the uk.

If Apple want to flush their sales in the UK down the toilet . They could not make a better decision than let Orange get anywhere near. I would rather have an iPhone with 5 minute battery life that dropped every other call on o2 rather than go with orange.

Just out of interest, I wonder if they could do something like HSBC do with bank accounts in that if you were to move countries you can take your phone/contract with you over to that country should your operator have a network there.

So for instance, if I were to go to Orange in France, take out a contract for the iphone there and then say I am moving to the UK, it would be legal right?

In Euroland I have no idea, I mean I always thought that bananas were supposed to be bendy but euroland says otherwise!!!

Just a thought though!

Cheers

Phill

Somebody has obviously had a bad experience.... lol. If it did appear on another uk network it would probably be orange seeing as they have it on every single other network run by France Telecom. Mind you, I think it's available on Tmob in some other countries.

Hi Confucious, Similarly, I posted another link over a week ago, that confirmed these are just rumours about Orange, and both providers have admitted there's no truth in it.

Orange always had a better signal in my area, but their 3G/HSPDA coverage is non-existent where I live.
O2 seem to have the better HSPDA coverage anyway in the UK, so if I had the choice, I go with O2.

Any bit of gossip about the iPhone in Google is repeated globally by every Tom, Dick and Harry, whether it's true or not.
The same about Apple's ability to remotely remove Apps on the iPhone. It's everywhere, but it turns out it's just not true, and someone got the wrong end of the stick. It just happens to spread like wild fire.
