ohmy.gif I'm not sure if this is hot news but I couldn't see it on this site, and T-Mobile's Mobile Broadband plans page (Click on "Broadband pay per day" tab) shows the price as £99.99 for the USB modem and £4 per day for use.

The new price will be £49.99 for the modem and £2 per day for use.

I was told the price in a T-Mobile shop by one of the sales team today, and also in a seperate shop (fonehouse) who I think specialise in T-Mobile phones and services.

That equals £60 / month! I thought that they had a maximum rate of £1 / day with a fair usage policy? (on a phone granted but use that as a modem)

£1 per day rate applies to web'n'walk from the phone directly, hence fair usage is only 40MB/day, excludes use in external modems, also there is no access to HSDPA (UMTS only) - at least on pay & go SIM cards.

Actually, £2 per day for modem access is really nice offer for someone who's using it as backup / occasional internet access. I'd be really keen to get just a SIM card from it (I already have Huawei E270), but apparently they only sell it with modem. In that case, could someone confirm what exactly modem is this? Is it Huawei E160? Anyone knows if it's locked to T-Mobile only (I guess so)? I'm thinking of buying the package, selling off the modem, and keep SIM card only.

Thanks in advance for any hints on the modem model...

I bought a TMo usb dongle on ebay (don't know which model it is) but I stuck a PAYG TMo sim in it and it worked right away, so although they don't want you to, there's nothing physically stopping you doing it this way for a backup net connection or occasionally out and about. Ideal for use with my EEE PC. Don't know about HDSPA on the PAYG sims since my modem is only 3.6mb anyway. I was a bit annoyed when I discovered the 40mb FUP after buying the kit though!

Does anyone know how you can find out TMo PAYG credit level by SMS? I can send/receive texts from the wnw software, but so far as I know I'd have to take the sim out and put it in a phone and call to find out.

Try texting BAL to 150.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I know I can use regular T-Mobile's PAYG SIM card in the modem, but there is no HSDPA (384 kbps downlink only) and just 40 MB daily limit. Also, modem access is excluded in T&Cs, so they can legally disconnect the service if they discover modem use. The £2 per day package they offer with dongle give 3GB of allowance and HSDPA access.
