I have Vodafone's pay & go SIM card, which has no GPRS/3G access enabled at all (trying to connect brings up 'service unavailable' message on the phone). I've called 191 once, guy took my request to activate the service and told to wait at least 24hrs for service to activate. It's well over 24hrs now, and my SIM still cannot access the internet.

I'd rather avoid spending another 25p to call these morons again, so if anyone knows how to activate the service myself, I'd be appreciated for a hint. (Note: I've tried do it online, but I can't find such option on my account)

I couldn't find it online too - ended up calling them to activate it. Took about an hour for my account to be actived for Internet access.

Guess you need to call them again...

You do have the connection settings set up on your phone?

Yes, I do.

UPDATE: Called 191 again, and it turned out my connection settings were wrong! I've used wap.vodafone.co.uk APN, while it should be pp.vodafone.co.uk - changed that and connection works straight away. My bad!
