Got a phone call yesterday, didn't recognise the number so I was a bit wary of answering, as it turned out with good reason!
It was a salesman trying to get me to upgrade. Now I've nothing against upgrading but my contract's not up till may, so that might be a small problem. Even after I'd told him this he carried on, asking me what phone I've got. When I told him SPV he tried telling me that the SPV2 is coming out soon! Now I've nothing against sales people as such but when they start trying to bullsh*t I get quite cross. The rest of the conversation is unprintable, and shortly after that I rang Orange and told them I want to be ex-directory. I had my SPV with new contract for about 2 days and i had some company call me and say something along the lines of "would you like to upgrade for free?". They seemed a little bemused when i stated that i had not had the phone very long.
They called back again a few months later with the same line - and i told them point blank that i was not interested and they said it would not happen again. I'm still waiting for the call though. But i felt a bit stoopid after the 2nd time - maybe i should have upgraded to a nice camera phone for the missus and kept the SPV. Don't know if they let you keep it though. |

I agree totally. They leave me answerphone messages, send me text messages and insult my intelligence by contradicting facts that I know are true.
And as far as I know I am ex-directory. Posted from my SmartPhone! -------------------- |

One possible way to stop them - ask them their name, their company name, the chief executive's name and phone number. Make it clear that you're writing this down and will complain as you are ex-directory. Check that you are ex-directory first though!
Also you could ask them for their home number and say that you'll call them back at a time convenient for you, which will be about six a.m. -------------------- Animo et Fide

Another way is to register with the Telephone Preference Service (www.tpsonline.org.uk). By law anyone wanting to call you for marketing purposes must first consult this registry and discount anyone registered. Not sure if this is aplicable for mobiles but one of the options as to why you are registering is to reduce the number of SMS messages, so it must include mobiles.
Like I said, this is a legal requirement and any company caught cold calling you can be prosecuted. |

I found the best way is the immature way.
Wait for them the speil out their pre-written sales talk and then ask them to repeat it a few times. really badword with them asking questions that they have already answered. keep doing it and with any luck they will hang up on you! And it makes you laugh instead of getting pissed off about it. I also like to put on a youngsters voice and say "hang on ill just get my mum" and keep them waiting for a while. if they havnt hung up by then, answer it in a ladies voice and use cheesy chat up lines and tell them how nice their voice is. share them off. I used to get really pissed of with them and this is my odd (yet effective) way of riding myself of them. |

Got a phone call from a "private" number yesterday which lasted all of 41 seconds. The guy asked what phone I had and I said E-200. He then proceded in telling me about current deals etc and as I was going on to explain to him I had recently upgraded and that I didnt need any of his deals....he hung up :!: The cheek of some people :!: -------------------- .::Orange.Branded.Shoes::.

My general rule with people calling my me to sell stuff is work out what they are selling. Think of a large company that sells the same and say your work for that company, or your partner does or whatever and that you get staff rates. That always seems to work for me, and they dont seem to call me back.
I know you can get a thing from telewest for your landline that stops people with withheld numbers from getting through without dialling a a code beofre your number. maybe theres something simmilar provided by mobile providers, or maybe there should be Phil -------------------- "Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime." - Ernest Hemingway
