DALLAS (July 18, 2006) - - BEIKS LLC, the world leader in language and reference for mobile devices is proud to announce a new and eagerly awaited extension to its popular spelling checker for Palm powered handhelds.

LexSpell 1.7 is the first spelling checker in the Palm OS world to provide quality and easy proofing of emails composed in GoodLink, the popular application which many believe to be the ultimate PIM solution on the market.

Initially released in 2001, LexSpell was the first spelling checker ever to provide proofing service to other Palm OS applications. Although technically imperfect, as there was never an official standard for proofing services on Palm OS as there is on other platforms, LexSpell became widely popular due to its timely arrival and successful combination of simplicity, quality and affordability. Its success had lead to the licensing of its core, the LexLib proofing engine, to DataViz. DataViz, who makes the platform's most popular office suite - Documents ToGo, has licensed LexLib for use in the high-end version of Documents ToGo.

In the Palm OS world there is no adopted standard for providing or utilizing proofing services. Certain vendors - like DataViz - have equipped their applications with proprietary proofing solutions; other vendors did not and users of VersaMail, SnapperMail, GoodLink email and many others have felt the void and requested a solution.

This is exactly where LexSpell and the later third party proofing solutions came into play; relying on certain core operating system and application functionality, they allow users to fetch, proof and place back text into a program that was not designed to do so by itself. Utilizing the most of the Palm OS extensibility, LexSpell would allow user to proof a text without leaving the active application - be it an email, word processing or whatever else - and as easily as tapping an icon on the command toolbar or pressing a special button combination (on a device like the Treo).

Complex and secure applications like GoodLink email have challenged and will continue to challenge the practical application of this useful approach of extending the functionality beyond the originally designed. And it is especially because of that, as well as the multiple requests that BEIKS has received from its loyal customer base, that we are so happy to announce that LexSpell 1.7 provides out-of-the-box operability within GoodLink!
