Just right-click the dataedit.inf and choose install and then right click the file you want to edit and choose edit date.

Yeah I thought that it might be some sort of Data gathering scam.

They ask a lot of questions anyways and they say that the first delivery won't be until febmarch time so there's a good amount of time for them to stop the deal and sell the mailing list.

Maybe just a HDD swap would do it. Rip out the advert ridden one and leave it on an old machine somewhere and then use the free one with a new HDD.

Still, don't really want to be tied to any kind of contract for three years and by the looks of it nothing concrete has actually happened yet. Could still just be a data gathering exercise for someone.

Who knows, I'm generally too lazyforgetful to do anything about these type of things anyways

Just spotted this on ircspy.com.

It seems www.metronomy.com want to give away free computers in the UK.

The catch is that for every hour of time you spend at the PC you have to watch 3 mins of adverts. The PC is free apart from that and is replaced every 3 years if you want to remain in the scheme.

What do you reckon? Sounds well dodgy but might be worth a look.

As far as I was aware (which most of the time isn't all that much ) Convert.exe is a "non-destructive conversion routine" I got that from the Examgear 70-215 training guide.

As I said before I haven't tried it under XP but on 2000 it worked fine and the files remained intact. As to the drive being in use, when you select to convert it you will be prompted to "dismount the drive" which should restart the PC and kick off the conversion.

But you are right on the Partion Magic bit though it's a crackin program but you need to buy it. Convert.exe is free which is a consideration to some folks.

Normally I would bow to the wisdom of the guys here but I'm sure there's a smidgen of truth in what I'm sayin....maybe

S'cool It just means that the drive is in use and can't be converted yet.

If you reply yes it should shutdown windows and restart, then it'll kick into converting to NTFS.

Just make sure you've shut down everything thats running and if you're still a bit worried backup anything you can't afford to lose :?

Dunno bout XP but in 2000 you just run "convert driveletter: /fs:ntfs"

EDIT: run it from a command prompt

Then you'll need to reboot and it'll do it's stuff.

Doesn't destroy any data either
