Interesting vote for the Snnheirsers - although not active noice-cancelling, i've been reading a bit and types like these that fit snugly into the ear canal are as good if not better than some of the cheaper active types - plus you're getting better sound quality all round. Perhaps that's the way to go.

The Sony's are the snug fit with noise cancelling cool.gif

I'm researching noise-cancelling headphones - does anyone have any views/advice/comments? My budget is limited to under £30 so i'm not expecting top-notch quality, but something better than the cr@p ones they charge you £2.50 or whatever for on flights.

Any recommendations?

I picked up a pair of Sony MDR-NC11A's from Sainsburys a couple of months ago for under £30 - top notch they are my second pair - the 1st i bought of ebay for about £60 (when they retailed at around £100) but not sure if they were *proper sony* but they did work.

Also just did a quick search on ebay again - another seller has them for £34 - which is still a bit of a bargain i think biggrin.gif

That's still a pretty good deal.
......
For value for money you won't beat 3 - provided you have coverage and don't mind their less than optimal speeds. - Check out this months PCPro for their comparison of the Mobile Broadband services.

I am starting to come to that realisation...
Looks like for £22 the minutes (300 a month) and data 3\5Gb (who knows!) is unbeatable....

The guy will be based in Solihull\Birmingham so i expect the coverage to be pretty good - its more down to cost\value....!

The data card is for emails\general surfing i think - no movie downloads etc... so speeds shouldn't be a massive issue. Thanks for the info on PCPro..

Anyone have any recommendations on the best phone of this lot?

Nokia 3120
Nokia 6500 Slide Black or Silver
Sony Ericsson K610i
Sony Ericsson K660i Lime White or Red
Sony Ericsson Z750i Silver or Purple

Cheers

I didn't get that far - does rather p!ss on the OPs fireworks, doesn't it?
Sorry.

Yeah i noticed that yesterday - after posting - but couldn't get on at work to post!
Bummer mad.gif

The other thing i thought of was Skype Out to India via 3 -but Skype Out doesn't work in India....

So i think we might next look at phone cards...

QUOTE
Just looked at their site and the Broadband Plus add on is 3Gb for £15/month or 1Gb for £10 - where do you get 5Gb for £7.50?

The Deal was in the Three shop in Solihull - it was basically £22 a month for the £15 line rental pack and USB modem - which *evidently* has just had the download increased from 3-5Gb. However having been told that we could call India for free - i might go back and chack that!

So whats the best deal then for combined phone\broadband connectivity...? (looks like international calling is a no no..)

Hi all;

Hoping someone can help!
I am working with an "offshore resource" who is in the UK for a year...
His Requirements are phone + internet access (for laptop) + Cheap calls home!

We have been phone shopping today and have come up with this deal @ Three ...

I think its pretty good - anyone got any comments before we go and buy one as i have no experience of Three...

For £15 a month you get:
300 minutes\texts a month

free voicemail
free instant messaging - windows live
free Skype <> Skype calls

Add £7 per month for
Free USB Modem
5Gb a month data allowance

Add £15 Per Month for
unlimited international calling (ie Calling home to India)

I think its a pretty awesome package...
The phone choices are:

Nokia 3120
Nokia 6500 Slide Black or Silver
Sony Ericsson K610i
Sony Ericsson K660i Lime White or Red
Sony Ericsson Z750i Silver or Purple

Out of those - whats the best phone (would also like to look at ebay resell value - if there is any...!)

Cheers

I was in the same boat with T-Mob, except I didn't get much of a signal at a location I spend much of the summer. I ended up going with the O2 simplicity 30 day rolling contract with the web bolt-on. I've now got better coverage with a data conection that doesn't keep dropping. If a great phone comes along I may go into another 18 month contract, but for now I'm happy spending less and getting slightly more.

Taken from theregister..

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/05/22/tesco_voip/

Tesco has started extending its VoIP service, Tesco Internet Phone, onto mobiles, offering Wi-Fi capable handsets the chance to make free calls to other Tesco customers.

Tesco's existing service is a pretty-standard VoIP operation, and is handled by Freshtel, the Australian VoIP specialist with a PC client. Freshtel are also providing the S60 client for the mobile version.

Putting VoIP onto a S60 phone isn't hard - the handsets generally come with a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) stack so the downloaded application is generally more about getting the right settings onto the phone than enabling it to use VoIP (though it may also provide branding and other capabilities).

Tesco are limiting the trial to four Nokia handsets, the N95, N81, E65 and E51, none of which are available to customers of Tesco Mobile as the MVNO is aimed at the lower end of the market. One of the problems with mobile VoIP is that those most interested in saving pennies on their phone calls don't tend to have Wi-Fi-enabled handsets.

One feature Tesco can offer is close integration with the mobile network, so the existing mobile phone number can be used with the VoIP service, in contrast to other systems which require a separate number to be issued.

Mobile VoIP works great, when connected to Wi-Fi, but it's becoming increasingly complicated for the user to decide which network to use. Having VoIP integrated in the handset, as on the S60 platform, makes things easier as simply hitting the green key connects over VoIP if it's available. But with separate providers and bundled packages, using VoIP might not always be the cheapest option.

Having a single provider of both services makes a lot more sense, and hopefully that's what Tesco, and Freshtel, will be able to offer once they complete their trials. ®

@deadphill - when dd you sign up for W'n'W standard? Before October 17th?
Unless they've changed again those regestering for W'n'W Standard after 17/10/07 can't get HSDPA

Just spoke to T-Mobile; it seems that i can't get HSDPA enabled on my priceplan - which is Flext 35 & WnW.... Seems that they are "unable" to add HSDPA to these plans... I started my contract around the end of October 07... what a PITA!
