ouch! keep complaining and trying different CS reps until you get someone who will refund! I got my ~£50 returned. I also argued that since I was clearly subscribed to a data bundle, to end it and replace it with no bundle at all (and with no notification) was ridiculous...

QUOTE(jimbouk @ May 14 2008, 16:44) *
I have unlimited and just phoned Orange... as I had a diary date to do so as my account in Orangeworld on my phone says the data bundle is due to end on 3rd June... and the very helpful chap said "no problem - can't renew the bundle now as its too far away but if you ring back on 1st June, we can simply renew the bundle for you"
I will phone on 1st June and will also check "my account" on my phone on 4th June!

definitely stay on top of this yourself. my last Orange bill was £50 more than normal, on investigating I saw I have been charged £50 for about 19MB of data usage. I rang up Orange to find out what had happened and sure enough my OWU bundle had expired the previous month, no-one had told me and I had been reverted to a tariff with no data bundle at all and charged at the PAYG rate.

After politely saying I wasn't very happy about this they agreed to refund me the data charges and re-apply the bundle. After the first attempt she said she would need a supervisor to re-apply it as the system wouldn't let her. I suspect this is because it was a one time offer but didn't mention that! I will be ringing back shortly to check if it has been put back on or not, but clearly the default action from Orange is to drop it at expiration and leave you with nothing.

yeah, certainly on the logos that were 'flat' on the surface, i.e. you couldn't really feel the logo when you ran your finger over it. if your car stereo logo/wording is the same it should be ok....

the bundle appears on my bill ok but I don't see it anywhere on my online account so am not sure when mine expires. considering there was only a small window of opportunity to get it I figured we'd all be around a similar time, but I have June in my head as my expiration date also...

btw I just read something that says the arcade system only comes with demos, not full games. Making it a total rip off.

Don't think so (tho I don't have the Arcade version myself)

for playing arcade games, no, you can easily get the memory card and store any info on that. the hdd is useful for downloading additional arcade games and music/movie clips etc that take up greater amounts of storage space.

are you certain it's doing a hibernation? not going into standby or a full shutdown?

have you tried removing the sheduled shutdown at 10.30pm completely, to make sure that is not playing a role? also (if it _is_def. hibernating), try disabling hibernation support and see if it behaves normally then. if so try enablingit again and see if the problem comes back.

tricky!

this link may be of help if you haven't come across it yet: http://blogs.msdn.com/davidnotario/archive.../27/412838.aspx

appears to be linked to mscorsvw.exe - which you can disable. doing this might stop the problem for you.

Had Ubuntu (Fiesty) installed as the main OS on my desktop for about 2 weeks now, and for 99% of stuff it's brilliant, but if you're a moderate to power user on windows (as mentioned earlier by ianbennett) there are lots of little niggly things that you soon start to miss...

being free gives it a big edge, but anyone who's used windows for several generations has sub-consciously learnt lots of little tips and certain ways of doing things that suddenly all go out the window!

I have a question for someone using thier XBox 360 as a Media Center Extender...

I want to know if it can play video content that requires a codec that is not native to MCE. i.e. I have some video podcasts that I download to my MCE to watch. They wouldn't play natively so I installed a codec pack which got them playing fine on the MCE box. I am considering getting an XBox and want to use it as an extender to watch MCE content in another room. I don't know if it will be able to play all content however since it doesn't have the codec pack installed ?

Has anyone had any experience of this ? Could someone with this setup try it out ?

this is exactly what I was getting to - it must be a recycyled number and the previous owner signed up for this service and authorised it. agree - go back to Vodafone and show no texts have been sent while you owned the account and that you are not liable for the billing...

I'm thinking of Flext-35, with Web n Walk Pro on a Vario 2 when they come out.

But then I worry that the Vario2 may be too big, and then I'm tempted by a K800i. I really do like the Windows Phone/PPC OS.

So any thoughts?

Cheers, M

that would be my choice - but it depends on how good T-Mobile coverage is where you live/work/need it and how much you use data. and how much you would use it if it was unlimited !

The Vario II is slightly smaller than the Vario so go hold one in a store somewhere (O2 have the Vario as the Mini S also) and see what you think....

Definately spam.

I've had at least 2 calls from companies just this week hinting they are Orange insisting I'm due a free upgrade - not until January I say - well you could have this one anyway they say - sod off I say!!

this bugs the heck out of me. I know full well I have no upgrade entitlement and I tell them. they then change their tack and say it's just a 'very good deal' and expect me to take out _another_ mobile contract to get it....

How would you like that ? ohmy.gif wink.gif

Yeah I second that! I love the google philosophy, and if their payment products are as fairly priced when they're released here in the UK as they are the US at the moment, paypal is going to have some serious competition at last.

Just need google to create an auction service now.

How about g-bay??

g-bay would be cool, not so sure it will happen soon tho. didn't they buy craigs list to enter into the buying and selling of items? just items at a fixed price not auction.

also I think google checkout is primarily meant to aid adwords customers, not as a universal payment method 'for all'

It seems so..
Having never used the WnW Pc Card, I assume there is some form of SMS functionality on it? Therefore they probably insist you use that instead of a MSN/Yahoo etc..
can't really blame them for wanting to raise revenue.

Yes the Pro version, used in a PC Card, could lead to high IM data transfers. Remember Skype acts as a proxy for other users traffic, so even if you're not actively using it you will be transferring data.. I'm not sure T-Mob understand this distinction tho, and probably just don't want high bandwidth in general (like IM with voice/video) being used..
