I synch with my SBS 2003 Exchange server - The iPhone is better than WM as it allows HTML emails! The iPhone also synchs with Gmail and Yahoo mail no problems but not Hotmail which I use quite a bit. Ah, the wonderful iPhone HTML Mail client. The one that has serious phishing vulnerabilities by obscuring spoofed domains, and that acts as a total spam magnet by blindly downloading all images embedded in mail. I can do without that, thanks. |

It's going to happen, its the look that kills the "I want one" urge for me but will still be interested in the the cost of device and contract so may be swayed. As well as the "Mark 1" looks, according to the Engadget review there are several parts which don't work very well - including audio quality, RF and GPS. http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/16/t-mobile-g1-review/ Probably best to hold off I think. God knows how they hope to compete with the iPhone when it hasn't even got a headphone socket! |

You do that my friend and you will get burned real bad, the chances of finding a real nigerian business are a billion to one. Heck you could play the lottery and have better chances. The way I see it, these guys have delivered my goods late today, after being paid for 2 weeks earlier. I would not suggest purchasing from them as they charge a lot for delivery and take 2 weeks to deliver. Annoying excuses for it being the weekend and that the courier wasn`t delivering on weekends, even paid an extra 20 pounds fee for delivering the goods. Damn cheapskates, I was lucky enough to receive the goods. see ya Vic Shepperd today's another day to find you Of course one way to spot a scammer is that comments go straight over their head Edit: Hello to Fabrice. My, this is getting to be quite an esteemed little gathering. |

If Richard Hughes gets his then I am definately going to buy from them. In fact I am that confident I will remortgage my house to get lots of money to buy these. Then I will sell them on eBay at a profit but only to people in Nigeria........ Don't forget the extra $$$ you'll be asked to pay when the consignment gets "stuck" at customs or needs a "warehouse release fee". No Registered Company number displayed either, which is a legal requirement for eCommerce websites in the UK. |

O2 is unlimited on the iPhone, and 200mb on PAYG.... I don't know what it is on the standard contract. If you're wanting a voice contract as well, the current O2 Simplicity offer of 600mins, 1000 texts and free "unlimited" internet bolt-on (120MB FUP, but AFAIK advisory only) for £20/m takes some beating. No lengthy contract tie-in either (30 days). |

I recall a thread some time ago where the plan was to send a GPS enabled PDA / phone through the post / courier to see where it went. I can't find the thread, so was wondering if anyone knew what happened to the plan. Thought about it when I was sent this link Would have thought it a bit of a non-starter. With a typical running time of just 2-3 hours, what GPS enabled PDA / phone would even make it to the local sorting office? And if you were to beef it up with extra batteries etc., I bet the most likely method of transport to its final destination would be "controlled explosion"! |

As a long term user of WM, but having an E90 and E51, I share your appreciation of S60. It's a welcome change to have something that just works, without having to download a plethora of 3rd party applications to get it to work the way you want - and certainly NEVER having to go near a registry editor. The speed of the latest versions is very nice too - without having to have the 600MHz+ powerhog CPUs that WM demands. Which is something that can't be said of the P990/P1i which are sluggish beyond belief (especially for messaging). The polished steel styling and build quality of the E71 series is wonderful - none of your Taiwanese cheap plastics here. I can't understand what Palm were thinking with the Pro - why have a flagship "professional" device which takes all its design cues from a $99 level "smartphone for kids" Centro? On the other side of the coin, S60 would never keep perpetual tweakers happy, but WM sometimes is like having too many clothes in your wardrobe, and spending all your time deciding what to wear instead of getting out to join the party. It is a shame the software catalogue isn't as extensive as WM, (SplashID, for example, is a major version behind, and has only basic import instead of full desktop sync), but that can only get better as device like the E71/E66, and the leisure-orientated N series, gain market share. |

[attachment=24782:o2_logo.gif] o2 will tomorrow launch a joint Mobile and Fixed line broadband package called Broadband Home and Away o2 will launch a new broadband package that consists of Mobile Broadband with Free Home Broadband. The package will cost £20 per month for with a 3gb data allowance while out and about and also 8mb unlimited fixed line broadband. It also includes unlimited WiFi at any of The Clouds Hotspots. The offer will be available to New and Existing customers between 1st August and 31st October 2008. The fixed line broadband is only free if you are covered by o2's LLU exchanges. These cover around 60% of the uk's population. Sally Cowdry, Marketing Director of o2 had this to say: “Whether our customers are watching a video or playing a game online at home, or browsing the internet on their laptop while on the move, our combined Broadband package is the perfect combination to help them stay connected wherever they are,” The standard broadband of upto 8mb can also be upgraded to higher speeds if available for an additional cost. The free broadband lasts for 12 months. "3" Mobile Broadband currently costs £7.50/m for 5GB. So in comparison O2's Home Broadband is hardly "Free". |

The new device is nowhere near perfect, but the only major difference between the iphone 3G and the original is "built-in GPS capability" and "3G/HSPDA". Nothing else has improved, and was never advertised as such. You forget the whole section of Steve Job's keynote and the iPhone website devoted to how the full Exchange support in v2.0 meant it was "Enterprise Ready". Except that turned out to be half-assed too. E.g.:- No Tasks or Notes sync with Exchange or PC Outlook. No way to add people to a meeting or give a reason for declining a meeting. No way to add people from a Global Address List to local contacts. No way for 3rd party apps (e.g. Pocket Informant) to access the built in Calendar (or ToDo list, cos there isn't one). No way to sync 3rd party app data to a PC except via 3rd party servers (PI) or open WiFi (SplashID) etc..etc.. |

To return this thread to topic - the most iniquitous thing about all this is that Vodafone have put all the £7.50/120MB customers on to the new plan (ie 500MB), but are continuing to charge those customers £7.50 for something that they are now giving to new customers for free. To put that in context - I have a plan that gives me 350 minutes for £40. I then pay a further £7.50 for the data bundle. Total: £Lots basically. However, if you look at their new tariffs I could have twice as many minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB for less money. The only way that they will give this to me is if I extend my contract by six months. Which sucks basically. Anyone got any ideas on how to approach this. I was looking at new price plans and vodafone.co.uk today and noticed there was no mention of the much publicised 500MB bundle. All the price plans details show Data Usage+ (First 15MB in a day) Up to £1.00 + up to £1 for 15MB in a day. £2 for every additional MB.The only mention of an "unlimited" package is under the Mobile Internet section - as an add-on to pay monthly contracts priced at £7.50/m. So I spoke to Vodafone New Connections who revealed that although they were aware the offer wasn't mentioned on the web site, as a "special", they could "build" Mobile Internet in for £5/m instead of £7.50 if I signed up for it with the certain "selected" 18 month contracts. Only the first month would be free. If I decided to add it later, it would be £7.50/m, as it always has been. The Vodafone press release statement claim that "pay monthly customers will no longer need to buy an additional internet bundle for £7.50 but instead every plan will automatically include internet access." is cleverly worded. In fact all they are actually saying is that all new Pay Monthly SIMS are data enabled so that internet access is possible without reconfiguration, and that the previous FUP has beeen increased to 500MB. In a strict sense their statement is true, which is why they got away with it. You don't actually need to buy the £7.50 bundle to have access the internet. But to use it, you will have to either pay the daily per-MB rates shown above, or buy a data bundle as before. The key expressions they throw in about internet access being "without ... additional charges" and "with no extra costs" are more word play - all it means is that the costs are fixed. Not that they are free, or included, in a standard contract. Although the obvious intention of the press release wording is to suggest the opposite (or at best be ambiguous), the "new" "unlimited" 500MB Internet service is neither included, nor free. To this day, it's not included in the published web site pricing or plan details, it's not mentioned on the Mobile Internet page, it costs a minimum of £5 on top of the advertised tarrifs, and you have to ask for it to get it. As I pointed out at the time, the whole thing is just an excercise in marketing speak. It just shows how poor journalism is these days, when spin like this is blindly taken at face value - even by major "industry" commentators. All the media just lapped it up and spouted out the headlines, without even so much as a glance at the small print. What's even more galling, is that people are still being misled that the bundle is "free", even by respected sites like this, which continue to support the myth long after the error has been pointed out. I note the "editorial" on the news article STILL hasn't been corrected. "to get half a gig of data bundled into your price plan for free is pretty blooming awesome IMHO!" |

how could anybody possibly interpret someone using caps as shouting when that same person is making posts to benefit the entire community? even if you thought it...its something that you keep to yourself. we are just trying to help eachother and have more fun with our eee's. all lowercase must mean i'm whispering...hope someone can hear. You can SHOUT good news as well as bad. Either way, it can be extremely bad equitette to do so if everybody else in the room is enjoying quiet conversation. |

Yes, but I have a "proper" laptop. I want something small, light, longish batt life that I can have with me for web browsing etc. without needing my full (expensive) laptop. There are often times when I don't want to take a laptop with me, but a small machine I can chuck in a bag would be useful. Those times when a Kaiser just isn't big enough P For that, I'd rather have an n800/n810. Same res display, much smaller and pocketable (just) and now even runs PalmOS apps:- http://www.access-company.com/products/gvm/ |

I'm suprised that all the expertise in this thread has missed the whole point of T-Mobile excuding IM from their WnW T&C. I would have thought it was obvious that it's simply about protecting their SMS revenue! |
